Life. She’s a cruel mistress and she’s unforgiving, but she’s relentless. I take my inspiration from her.

My journey up to this point has been unpredictable and filled with mistakes, but never with regrets. I never expected to be where I am today. I’m happy where I am, but what makes me even happier is that I know this isn’t the destination; where I am today is only that pitstop on a vast, open highway where you stop late at night to fill up on gas and grab a chipwich.

Life is relentless. She introduces me bluegrass and whiskey, but also separates me from my best friends. She thrusts me into the working world—inspires me to embrace the city I live in and entrusts me to value the new people I meet more than the coins in my pocket.

I can’t wait until I finish that chipwich and drive on that open road again. I wonder what my next exit will be, although I’m certain it will be a new city filled with familiar faces. And that hope is what I cling to, because I know that time in my life will be god damn fucking badass.

I love City Sports. I really do. But working there really enhances the absurdity that is relationships in life. This past summer I saw 17 of my coworkers leave to go elsewhere. St. Louis, Miami, Austin, California, D.C. I grow so close to some of them, and then they leave and that’s it. Really makes you think about the relationships you hold now, and if they will last. At least I have such fond memories with so many of my now almost-forgotten-but-still-adored friends.

Also, working retail sucks.

In other news: I’m going to make one of these Pac-Man (Did you know that the original name for Pac-Man was Puck-Man? You’d think it was because he looks like a hockey puck but it actually comes from the Japanese phrase “Paku-Paku,” which means to flap one’s mouth open and closed. They changed it because they thought Puck-Man would be too easy to vandalize, you know, like people could just scratch off the P and turn it into an F or whatever.) pins. That is, if I can figure out how. If I do manage to figure it out then I might just make some for all y’all as well. Ya know, if you’re lucky.
